Kick off the summer with a program designed specifically for our valued veterans, military families, and local first responders. Presented in collaboration with Challenge America.
Beauty can often be found in imperfections if you know how to look! Based on Margaret Kilgallen’s hand-painted artworks, we will create our own beautiful pieces that show our hands in the process of creation. Students will be encouraged to celebrate “mistakes” and turn them into masterpieces using painting, printing, and drawing methods.
Young artists in this workshop will create whimsical artworks all by hand. Huggable hand-sewn softies, decorative prints on wood, and colorful paper cuttings are just a few of the projects that will capture the beauty and charm of the handmade. Some artworks will be made as gifts to be given away at the end-of-week art show.
The AAM is celebrating the opening of Etel Adnan’s Each day is a whole world (Galleries 5 & 6), Walter Price’s We passed like ships in the night (Gallery 4), Oscar Tuazon’s Fire Worship (Roof Deck Sculpture Garden), and Erika Verzutti’s Venus Yogini (Crown Commons) on Thursday, June 6, beginning at 5:30 p.m., with a gallery walkthrough with the AAM’s Nancy and Bob Magoon CEO and Director, Heidi Zuckerman! Join us for delicious snacks from SO Café, free wine and beer, music, and a complimentary art-making activity for all ages on Level 3.
Monthly drop-in Family Workshops at the AAM are designed to provide children and adults free opportunities to explore the galleries and create works of art on their own. Families are encouraged to communicate, reflect, and produce as artists together.
Drawing on the wealth of Spanish speakers in the Roaring Fork Valley, the museum presents an afternoon of activities for all ages, entirely in Spanish. Featuring guided tours, family art-making activities, and more, this special event is free and open to the public en Español. This special event will include a walkthrough with artist Gabriel Rico.
What would E = MC2 look like as a painting? Find out in this workshop where arrangements of carefully selected materials will represent an artful science.
