The Japanese artist Takashi Murakami combines highly refined classical Japanese painting techniques with distinctive Pop sensibilities. Known for his “Superflat” style, directly influenced by manga and anime, the artist creates works that explode with color and playfulness. For the 2015–16 ski season, in collaboration with Aspen Skiing Company, Murakami has produced four unique images, all of which embody his trademark visual aesthetic.
For those who are ready to jump right in, this Workshop will immerse you fully into the playful side of creativity. Through spirited visits to artworks on view at the AAM and collaborative, hands-on activities, we’ll work up the momentum to create a public artwork to share with friends and families—and make new friends along the way!
Experiment with “popular opposites,” using contrast as a catalyst for art and design in this zany Workshop. Unlikely combinations collide on a variety of surfaces, creating unexpected mixed media works. We will show off our compositions at an art show for family and friends at the end of the week.
Tuesday–Sunday, 10 AM–6 PM
