      Active Art at the Museum

      This free program offers senior citizens in the Roaring Fork Valley an informal drawing lesson and the opportunity to socialize over food and beverages at SO, the AAM’s Andrea and James Gordon Café.

      Active Art at Whitcomb Terrace

      Active Art invites seniors to engage in the social dimensions of art. Museum educators bring free, memory-enhancing activities to the assisted-living communities of Whitcomb Terrace in Aspen and Heritage Park in Carbondale. Physically independent seniors are invited for monthly gatherings at the Aspen Art Museum, where drawing activities and free food and refreshments are offered at SO, the Andrea and James Gordon café.

      Join us on Thursday, June 30th, at 6 p.m., for an opening reception for AAM’s summer exhibitions, Alan Shields: Protracted Simplicity (1966-1985), John Outterbridge: Rag Man, and The Revolution Will Not Be Gray. There is a 5 p.m. members’ walkthrough with AAM Nancy and Bob Magoon CEO and Director Heidi Zuckerman.

    • The Aspen Art Museum invites you to join us for a Fourth of July morning celebration. Featuring a pancake breakfast buffet and a family-friendly art activity, the AAM is the perfect place to start your holiday and you won’t miss a minute of the parade!

    • Rhythm, texture, form! Students will discover the magic of geometric shapes and patterns. After studying artworks in the galleries for inspiration, we will create collaborative and individual works of art that celebrate the simple beauty and complexity of mathematical forms.

    • Calling all creative kids! Abandon the flat canvas in this mixed media Workshop where colors, patterns, and combined materials provide the structure for new forms of art. Inspired by the work of artist Alan Shields, participants will take painting to the next dimension by designing their own colorful canvases from hand-made paper and suspended forms.
