The Japanese artist Takashi Murakami combines highly refined classical Japanese painting techniques with distinctive Pop sensibilities. Known for his “Superflat” style, directly influenced by manga and anime, the artist creates works that explode with color and playfulness. For the 2015–16 ski season, in collaboration with Aspen Skiing Company, Murakami has produced four unique images, all of which embody his trademark visual aesthetic.
Have you ever wished that you had more time to go deeper into the ideas that come up on exhibition tours? This four-session course meets every Wednesday in May to break down key histories, concepts, and debates of contemporary art. Participants will build a skill set of observational tools, critical vocabulary, and a greater confidence in navigating contemporary art.
To mark the final closing of the exhibition Ritual, join Alya Howe and the Aspen Poets’ Society for an evening of poetry readings. Poets across Colorado have been convened to share their work, and participants will be invited to plant seeds about what we want to grow and cultivate in our lives. Featured poets include Meta Sarmiento, Uche Ogbuji, Art Goodtimes, along with Eleanore Scott, Halle Zander, and Stefano Da Fre.
