Summer Workshops: Ages 9–11

2017 Workshops

Concrete Jungle
Ages 8–11
June 19–23, 9:30 AM–3:30
Location: Aspen Center for Environmental Studies
$300 Members/$325 Nonmembers

Break out of the mold by using traditional sculpture methods and materials to create greener spaces. Inspired by the artworks of Fischli and Weiss, we will use concrete and plaster to fabricate a variety of built landscapes for natural environments, inspired by the plant and animal life found in and around Aspen Center for Environmental Studies’ Hallam Lake.

Fourth of July Parade: A Work in Progress
July 3–7, 9 AM–3 PM (note: class on July 4 ends after parade)
Location: AAM Education Workshop
$275 Members/$295 Nonmembers

Progress takes an unexpected path in this wacky Workshop. We will start the Workshop exploring performance art and creating giveaway artworks that form a float to be marched down Main Street during the Old Fashioned Fourth of July Parade. Over the course of the rest of the week, we will create personal artworks in a variety of media to share with others.

Stop-Motion Animation
July 10–14, 9 AM–3 PM
Location: AAM Education Workshop
$300 Members/$325 Nonmembers

Turn your imagination into an animated movie! In this playful Workshop, we will develop a storyline with a setting and characters, draw a storyboard, and use a digital camera to animate our films. After one week of production, a special screening will be held for family and friends in the Education Workshop. Please note: Students are required to bring a digital camera or tablet.

Fashion ForwardSOLD OUT
July 17–21, 9 AM–3 PM
Location: Aspen High School
$325 Members/$350 Nonmembers

Be a trendsetter! This fashion Workshop will develop skills needed to create a unique line of custom looks. With an emphasis on the idea of “popular opposites,” we will create fashion illustrations, a portfolio of new designs, and ready-to-wear pieces using a variety of sewing techniques and materials. At the end of the week, we will share these creations at a special fashion show for family and friends.

Model Makers
August 7–11, 9 AM–3 PM
Location: AAM Education Workshop
$300 Members/$325 Nonmembers

Let’s build! Using a variety of techniques and materials, we will discover the magic of model making by creating mockups and fabricating and replicating our own reproductions of large-scale buildings, items, and art. Through our compacted designs, we’ll learn about the complexities and focus needed to become a pro model maker.
