Supersize Drawing
June 5–9, 9 AM–3 PM
Location: AAM Education Workshop
$300 Members/$325 Nonmembers

Discover the power of drawing to transform ordinary blank pages into incredible works of art. We will respond to creative challenges in the galleries, studio, and outdoors that hone our large-scale drawing skills. Throughout the week, we will explore techniques of shadowing, perspective, and contouring inspired by larger-than-life artworks and artists.

Mad Potters
June 12–23, 9 AM–3 PM
Location: AAM Education Workshop
$600 Members/$650 Nonmembers

Roll up your sleeves for pinching, twisting, carving, and squishing clay! Working individually and collaboratively over the course of this two-week Workshop, we’ll plan and problem-solve to create a variety of functional and decorative sculptures to be used at an outlandish tea party for family and friends at the end of the session.

All Around Aspen
June 26–30, 9 AM–3 PM
Location: Aspen Historical Society
$300 Members/$325 Nonmembers

Check out Aspen through a new lens, visiting landmarks and hidden gems around town with an artist’s eye. We will respond to stories heard from local experts through photography, sketching, and collage techniques. A beautiful travelogue will be the result of our explorations as a keepsake of the experience.

Fourth of July Parade: A Work in Progress – SOLD OUT
July 3–7, 9 AM–3 PM (note: class on July 4 ends after parade)
Location: AAM Education Workshop

Progress takes an unexpected path in this wacky Workshop. We will start the Workshop exploring performance art and creating giveaway artworks that form a float to be marched down Main Street during the Old Fashioned Fourth of July Parade. Over the course of the rest of the week, we will create personal artworks in a variety of media to share with others.

Fancy Fashionistas
July 10–14, 9 AM–3 PM
Location: Aspen High School
$325 Members/$350 Nonmembers

This Workshop is created for students with a passion for fashion, and a love for animals. We will learn skills such as hand-sewing, pattern-cutting, and fabric embellishment. After creating a Look Book and wearable accessories inspired by our favorite creatures, we will celebrate our new looks with a runway show for family and friends.

Action and Reaction

July 17–21, 9 AM–3 PM

Let’s make an impact together! Our curiosity and wonder will spark wild experiments and artworks in different forms, media, and materials. Our innovative creations will be the evidence of our expanded understanding about connections between science and art, and will be shared at a demonstration for family and friends at the end of the week.

Let’s Move! – SOLD OUT
Co-taught with SOULSKIN Dance
July 24–28, 9 AM–3 PM
Location: AAM Education Workshop
$300 Members/$325 Nonmembers

Turn the museum into a stage! In this performing arts Workshop, co-taught with SOULSKIN Dance company’s Artistic Director Adrianna Thompson and a company member, we will learn choreography and movement that will be shared in a unique performance taking place throughout the museum on the final day of the Workshop. We will explore art on view through visual and kinesthetic experiences, and wear costumes designed by the 12–14 year old Fashion for Real Workshop participants.

Collaboration Stations
July 31–August 3 (no class August 4), 9 AM–3 PM
Location: AAM Education Workshop
$245 Members/$260 Nonmembers

Let’s join together! This Workshop will encourage collaboration together and alongside 4–5 year olds to create one-of-a-kind pieces inspired by the artwork and artists on view. We’ll explore painting, sculpture, and drawing techniques as a team, and hop from station to station on our journey to understanding and appreciating contemporary art.

Operation: Opposites Attract
August 7–11, 9 AM–3 PM
Location: AAM Education Workshop
$300 Members/$325 Nonmembers

Experiment with “popular opposites,” using contrast as a catalyst for art and design in this zany Workshop. Unlikely combinations collide on a variety of surfaces, creating unexpected mixed media works. We will show off our compositions at an art show for family and friends at the end of the week.

August 14–18, 9 AM–3 PM

How many different ways can you make your mark? In this playful Workshop, we will discover alternative printmaking techniques in response to contemporary trends. We will learn how to transform our ideas into multiple, two-dimensional printed works of art to share with family and friends.



Time and Location

Unless otherwise noted, most Workshops run from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the AAM Education Workshop.

Tuition

Unless otherwise noted, tuition for a full-week Workshop is $300 for members, $325 for nonmembers. All tuition costs include a $50 nonrefundable registration fee.

Special promotion for AAM members at the Family level and above ($100+): enroll in any class and receive one class free if purchased before May 17, 2017. Offer limited to one per family. Classes in collaboration with Aspen Center for Environmental Studies, Aspen Historical Society, and Aspen Science Center are excluded from this offer.

In order to be confirmed for a Workshop, an Emergency Contact and Release form must be completed and signed. Payment covers Workshop costs and materials; participants need to bring any snacks and lunch to the Workshop.

Waiting List

There is no charge to be placed on a waiting list for a Workshop that has reached maximum capacity. If a space becomes available, the AAM Education Coordinator will contact the first individual on the waiting list in the order of their application and give twenty-four hours for them to officially register before moving on to the next person on the list.

Cancellation Policy

Thirty days prior written notice is required to receive a refund on Workshop registration costs. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made within thirty days of the start of the Workshop. Please note that tuition includes a $50 registration fee that is nonrefundable. If the AAM is required to cancel the Workshop, the Education Coordinator will contact each participant individually and fully refund the registration cost or reallocate the enrollment to another Workshop. Workshop registrations cannot be transferred to another person.

Art Educators in Training Internship for Teens

This exciting internship and career-building opportunity is for highly motivated high school students who are interested in the arts and demonstrate a love for working with children. Scholarships

The Aspen Art Museum is pleased to offer need-based scholarships for children and residents of the Roaring Fork Valley. A scholarship application is available for download here.
