The Future Yesterday

Nov 26, 2014-Dec 3, 2014
Featuring film and video by ten artists from six countries, The Future Yesterday examines the weight and role of language in defining and shaping our sense of place. Through translation, the blurring of history and fiction, or the simple act of telling a story backwards, the artists in the exhibition examine how directed narratives have the ability to shape collective thought and action. The Future Yesterday asks us to look beyond what is visible at first sight. Artists include Adel Abidin, Sadik Kwaish Alfraji, Basma Al Sharif, Mounira Al Solh, Yto Barrada, Youmna Chlala, Dina Danish, Malak Helmy, Iman Issa, and Akram Zaatari.

AAM exhibitions are made possible by the Marx Exhibition Fund.

Support for The Future Yesterday is provided by the Etkin Family Digital Media and Moving Image Fund, and funded in part by the AAM National Council.
