      Monthly drop-in Family Workshops at the AAM are designed to provide children and adults free opportunities to explore the galleries and create works of art on their own. Families are encouraged to communicate, reflect, and produce as artists together.

      KDNK Public Activation

      The AAM is on-air! KDNK community radio Carbondale will be hosting an activation of Abraham Cruzvillegas’s Hi, how are you, Gonzo? tomorrow from 2 – 9 p.m., featuring live broadcast, music jams, dancing, an art-making activity, and more! This full day of programming is going to be a radio-based blast for all ages and experience levels!

      Free, drop-in spotlight tours led by museum staff are offered every Wednesday and Saturday at 1 p.m.

    • This after-school program for kids in Grades K–4 is held most Wednesdays during the school year at the AAM. Museum Educators lead classes that include activities in the gallery and take-home projects.

    • Join the AAM Fellows for a few lively rounds of balloon volleyball in Abraham Cruzvillegas’s Hi, How are you Gonzo Exhibition? space. All ages are welcome, and light refreshments will be provided.

    • The AAM is celebrating the opening of Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Room Where the Lights in My Heart Go on Thursday, December 19 beginning at 5:30 p.m. Join us for delicious snacks from Epicure Catering, free wine and beer, music from Garland Burton, and a complimentary art-making activity for all ages on Level 3.

      As part of this festive evening opening, please join us for a champagne toast in recognition of exhibiting artist Oscar Murillo’s 2019 Turner Prize. Murillo is one of four recipients of Britain’s highly prestigious honor this year. His current exhibition, Social Altitude, is on view at the AAM through May 17, 2020.

    • During winter break, the museum offers daily workshops for 4–5 year-olds and 6–10 year-olds taking inspiration from artists on view at the museum. Each day tackles a new creative challenge, winter activities, and a chance to play through art making.
