    • This season, the AAM’s Movies at the Museum program presents films that complement Mickalene Thomas’s exhibition Mentors, Muses, and Celebrities. The program draws on true stories of strong female protagonists, each of whom overcomes adversity in ordinary and extraordinary ways while challenging us to imagine a better world.

    • Held once a month from 10:30–11:30 a.m., these free community workshops provide playful exploration of storytelling for young audiences with their parents or caregivers. This level of Art Studio is offered free of charge and is first come, first served.

      Free, drop-in spotlight tours led by museum staff are offered every Wednesday and Saturday at 1 p.m.

    • This after-school program for kids in grades K–4 is held weekly at the Aspen Art Museum from September through May. Taking place most Wednesdays from 2:30–4 p.m., these workshops recognize the value of exposing children to the arts at an early age and use the artist’s process as an educational tool. Museum educators and teaching artists lead classes that include activities in the gallery and take-home projects.

      Classes are limited to fifteen participants. Prior registration is strongly encouraged.

    • This four-session course meets every Wednesday in May, from 5:30–7:30 p.m., to break down key histories, concepts, and debates of contemporary art. Participants will build a skill set of observational tools, critical vocabulary, and a greater confidence in navigating contemporary art.

      Story Art: Basalt

      Story Art is a community outreach program that provides playful exploration of storytelling for young audiences with their parents or caregivers. This free community program builds visual literacy and art appreciation in the Basalt Regional Library and Carbondale Branch Library.

      Active Art: Carbondale

      Active Art brings art to two locations serving senior citizens in the Roaring Fork Valley: Pitkin County Senior Center in Aspen and Heritage Park Assisted Living in Carbondale. This program provides older adults free monthly opportunities to access contemporary art while supporting brain fitness and socialization. Participants are also able to visit the museum for guided tours throughout the year.

      Active Art: Aspen

      Active Art brings art to two locations serving senior citizens in the Roaring Fork Valley: Pitkin County Senior Center in Aspen and Heritage Park Assisted Living in Carbondale.
