Movies at the Museum: The NeverEnding Story (1984)

This summer, enjoy open-air cinema in the Roof Deck Sculpture Garden through the film program The Loop, presented by the AAM and Aspen Film. Inspired by Jay DeFeo’s exhibition The Ripple Effect, which examines an icon and her lasting impact on artists today, these films playfully capture the complexities of references and homages. Genres range from fantasy, drama, and musical to documentaries, with stories that take us forward by looping back.

On his way to school, Bastian ducks into a bookstore to avoid bullies and finds a book called The Neverending Story. As the fantastical story unfolds, Bastian reads a description of himself in the book and realizes he must enter the book in order to save the magic kingdom of Fantasia.
