Artist Community Program Educator

Position Title: Artist Community Program Educator

Reports to: Learning Director

Department: Education

Employment Status: At Will Part-Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

General Purpose Statement

Assist Learning Director with the development and administration of programs and audience development of new Artist Community Programs: Press Play, Crit Sessions, and AAM Fellowship. Provide mentorship and skill-building to the teen curators and artists participating in the Young Curators of the Roaring Fork (YCRF) program with the Access and Education Program Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain active database of artists
  • Promote AAM lectures, openings, and other public programs to artist * community
  • Identify artists who could collaborate on Press Play events
  • Run Press Play: assemble materials, send invitations, setup, and clean-up
  • Promote Crit Sessions to artist community; handle RSVPs and participants’ questions
  • Run Crit Sessions: liaise with artists on drop-off, setup, and clean-up refreshments and any materials, administer evaluation
  • Administer AAM Fellowship in collaboration with Learning Director: send correspondence and approved curriculum, set up meeting times, coordinate any materials or refreshments, maintain close connection with AAM Fellows
  • Collaborate with AAM Access and Education Program Manager to develop and deliver content to the YCRF program participants (both high school curator interns and artists)
  • Attend professional development and training opportunities to stay current in museum best practices
  • Maintain effective and efficient record-keeping procedures
  • Provide a positive environment that enhances the relationship of the museum to the artist community

  • Knowledge of current art exhibitions and educational strategies to parallel exhibitions
  • Knowledge of AAM and department policies and procedures Computer skills to complete forms and paperwork and to use email

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts, art history, education, or a related field
  • A minimum of three years of experience working in the visual arts
  • Strong writing, teaching, organizational, critical thinking, and communication skills
  • A satisfactory background check is required. Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Mental and Physical Abilities, Work Environment
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. and move bulky objects
  • May require a lot of work on feet, moving of light furniture, and bending
  • Comfortable reading or doing a demonstration in front of large audiences
  • Clear diction and adequate hearing are necessary for effective communication with coworkers and the public
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Ability to operate motor vehicle.
  • Ability to stoop and kneel are necessary for performing required work
  • Exposure to extreme conditions such as heat, cold, wet, dry, various odors, fumes, smoke, noise, vibrations, dust, or intense light when performing job duties
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Work is generally performed inside in a climate-controlled environment with light background noise
Hours and Work Schedule

This is an hourly position requiring availability for weekend, day, evening, and holiday shifts. The Educator position is nonexempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and will receive overtime pay for all hours worked in excess of forty in a seven-day workweek.
