Sarah Lucas: Florian and Kevin

Oct 22, 2014-Jan 25, 2015
Gigantic in scale and fantastical in nature, Sarah Lucas’s Florian and Kevin inhabit the Aspen Art Museum’s Roof Deck Sculpture Garden, seemingly transported from a fairy tale. These immense squashes, cast entirely of concrete, sit on top of the museum as if sprouted from Jack’s magical beanstalk. Continuing Lucas’s practice of repurposing ordinary objects into unusual contexts, the enormous gourds play with our sense of scale, offering a perspective that is at once familiar and unsettling.
AAM exhibitions are made possible by the Marx Exhibition Fund. General exhibition support is provided by the Toby Devan Lewis Visiting Artist Fund. Sarah Lucas’s Florian and Kevin is supported by the Simone and Kerry Vickar Roof Deck Sculpture Fund, and funded in part by the AAM National Council.
