Reading Room: Sparkle Nation Book Club

Jun 11, 2021-Oct 17, 2021

For the inaugural Reading Room, Sparkle Nation Book Club has devised an eclectic reading list with children and young adults in mind. Works of fiction, theory, and poetry, as well as self-publishing in the form of zines and artists’ books, are made freely available to use and engage with throughout the summer.

Founded by artists and writers Gabrielle Rucker, Precious Okoyomon, and Diamond Stingily in 2018, Sparkle Nation Book Club is a literary arts collective dedicated to the written word and organizing through its various forms.

Through intentional readings, radio broadcasts, workshops, and discussions, Sparkle Nation’s purpose is to directly challenge traditional academic notions of how to properly obtain, share, and utilize knowledge.

The AAM Reading Room is curated by Saim Demircan, Curator at Large, and Simone Krug, Assistant Curator, as a dedicated, itinerant space for self-publishing

AAM exhibitions are made possible by the Marx Exhibition Fund. General exhibition support is provided by the Toby Devan Lewis Visiting Artist Fund. Additional support is provided by the AAM National Council.
