Monthly drop-in Family Workshops at the AAM are designed to provide children and adults free opportunities to explore the galleries and create works of art on their own. Families are encouraged to communicate, reflect, and produce as artists together.

This after-school program for kids in Grades K–4 is held most Wednesdays during the school year at the AAM. Museum educators lead classes that include activities in the gallery and take-home projects.
Classes are limited to fifteen participants. Prior registration strongly encouraged.

In this new lecture series, leading thinkers explore the importance and nuances of empathy. Kaywin Feldman has been the Director and President of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) since 2008. Under her direction, MIA recently launched the Center for Empathy and the Visual Arts. She is the 2019 AAM Director in Residence.

This two-part Saturday workshop for grades 9–12 dives into specific exhibitions and mediums, helping students grow as young artists. In this first workshop, participants will learn about the fundamentals of photo composition and how to respectfully listen and converse about art through a critique session.
