Marcel Broodthaers: Décor: A Conquest

Dec 20, 2014-Mar 8, 2015
Originally conceived in 1974 as the inaugural exhibition for the Institute of Contemporary Art, London, Marcel Broodthaers’s Décor: A Conquest is an intricate installation exploring the relationship between conflict and comfort. Consisting of two period rooms, titled XIXth Century and XXth Century respectively, Décor juxtaposes implements of war and furniture, examining the complex relationship between weapons and objects as symbols of power. The last exhibition Broodthaers would present before his death, Décor is a complex investigation into the function of both history and museology.

AAM exhibitions are made possible by the Marx Exhibition Fund.

General exhibition support is provided by the Toby Devan Lewis Visiting Artist Fund.

Marcel Broodthaers’s Décor: A Conquest is funded in part by the AAM National Council.
