The Japanese artist Takashi Murakami combines highly refined classical Japanese painting techniques with distinctive Pop sensibilities. Known for his “Superflat” style, directly influenced by manga and anime, the artist creates works that explode with color and playfulness. For the 2015–16 ski season, in collaboration with Aspen Skiing Company, Murakami has produced four unique images, all of which embody his trademark visual aesthetic.
Monthly drop-in Family Workshops at the AAM are designed to provide children and adults free opportunities to explore the galleries and create works of art on their own. Families are encouraged to communicate, reflect, and produce as artists together.
Progress takes an unexpected path in this wacky Workshop. We will start the Workshop exploring performance art and creating giveaway artworks that form a float to be marched down Main Street during the Old Fashioned Fourth of July Parade. Over the course of the rest of the week, we will create personal artworks in a variety of media to share with others. (Note: class on July 4 ends after parade.)
Tuesday–Sunday, 10 AM–6 PM
