    Artist’s Book

    Last week we learned how to turn our photoengraving from a two-dimensional image into a three-dimensional object with master printmaker Maria Pujol’s innovative techniques. Join AAM Educator Vanessa Porras this Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. MT for a quick lesson in making an accordion-style artist book using a photoengraved image that explores all the possibilities of light and shadow!

    Studio Visit with Ali O'Neal

    Join us at 2:30 p.m. (MT) on Instagram Live and meet featured local artist Ali O’Neal. Ali is a screen printer, designer, seamstress, and founder of the brand, Thimble Fox. She uses her work in serigraphy and textiles as a platform for social and political commentary to educate about the inequities of the textile fast fashion industry.

    The Teen Curators program allows participants to gain insight into different styles of curatorial practice. In this brand-new iteration of what has become a signature AAM highlight for teens, each curator will design their own creative project with support from museum staff.

    Easy Screen Printing with a Stencil

    According to 2018 EPA studies, there was an estimated 17 million tons of textile waste. ASL’s featured artist, Ali O’Neal, believes that “fast fashion overlooks unethical environmental and social inequities… where and how we spend our money is a vote for the world we want to live in. Life is not always fair, but fabric certainly can be.” Join AAM Educator, Vanessa Porras, at 2:30 p.m. (MT) to learn fun ways to upcycle your clothing by designing your own patches with an easy screen printing technique!

    Screen printing with multiple colors

    One of the best things about screen printing is seeing your design come to life by adding various colors. Inspired by this month’s guest artist Ali O’Neal’s most recent line for the Green is the New Black Fashion Show, we’ll be playing with some lilacs and lime green colors. Join AAM Educator, Vanessa Porras, at 2:30 p.m. (MT), as we continue to work on old textiles to convert them into new and vibrant clothing patches.

    Join us today at 2:30 p.m. (MT) on Art Studio Live! to meet our featured guest artist for June, Mexico City-based artist José Lopez. José began his career in the world of journalism, but after venturing into Mexico’s Lacandon Jungle for a photographic project to record cultural contamination, found his life changed forever. Find out how his own business building a mezcal brand led to him becoming an artist now specializing in linocut.
    
    Acompañanos hoy a las 2:30 pm MT y conoce al artista destacado José López de la Ciudad de México. José inició su carrera como periodista, pero poco después se aventuró en un proyecto fotográfico para grabar la contaminación cultural en la Selva Lacandona y su vida cambió para siempre. Descubre cómo su negocio en el mezcal lo llevó a convertirse en un artista especializado en linóleo.

    A Lesson in Drawing

    In order to create a successful design to transfer onto a linoleum block, we need to think about patterns! Join AAM Educator Vanessa Porras today at 2:30 p.m. (MT) on instagram to learn about basic drawing techniques, line work, and pattern. Inspired by our June guest artist José Lopez’s work with agave plants, you’ll experiment by drawing different cacti and succulents.
