      Family Workshops

      AAM Sounds: Whitacre

As a lively close to the Whole Celebration, the AAM welcomes Whitacre for an outdoor concert around Oscar Tuazon’s Fire Worship. With sold-out shows and rising streaming popularity around their recently released EP Within the Mountains’ Shadows, Whitacre blurs the lines of folk, indie rock, and bluegrass music. Their thought-provoking, positive lyrics and high-energy live performances provide a spirited ending note to close the twenty-four-hour program.

    • Have you ever seen a sculpture that looks like a drawing? Or a drawing that looks like a sculpture? Now is your chance to bend dimensions with your art skills! Join us to make new and exciting artworks through the combination of 2-D and 3-D techniques.

    • Taking cues from the flora and fauna around us, young artists will combine natural and human-made materials—such as faux fur, reflective surfaces, pinecones, and twigs—to create masks and costumes for pretend play and animated tales about life in the Rocky Mountains. Family and friends are invited to a performative art show at the end of the week!

    • In his feature film debut, Rashid Johnson finds a transcendent new life for Richard Wright’s pivotal novel, Native Son. Bigger “Big” Thomas is portrayed by Ashton Sanders as an outsider, an Afro-punk young man struggling to find his place in society. When he finds a job as a chauffeur for a wealthy family, it sets in motion a devastating chain of events. What follows is a heartbreaking and still-relevant revival Wright’s original story.
