Art and writing go hand-in-hand in this “wordshop,” inspired by the mixed-media artwork of Rashid Johnson. Combine poetry with paint to create new and inspirational works of art that capture the spirit of your favorite vacation destinations!
Presented in collaboration with the Aspen Music Festival and School (AMFS), this free chamber concert series features one-hour performances by the most advanced AMFS students and visiting musicians in Aspen.
Active Art invites seniors to engage in the social dimensions of art. Each month, museum Educators bring free, memory-enhancing activities to the assisted living communities of Whitcomb Terrace in Aspen and Heritage Park in Carbondale.
Free, drop-in spotlight tours led by museum staff are offered every Wednesday and Saturday at 1 p.m.
Lisa Yuskavage was born in Philadelphia, in 1962, and lives and works in New York. Her approach to figurative painting challenges conventional understandings of the genre and combines art history, popular culture, and fantastical references. Her work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Institute of Contemporary Art, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Centre d’Art Contemporain, Geneva, Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo, Mexico City, the Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin, and the Rose Art Museum, Waltham, MA. Yuskavage is the recipient of the 2019 Aspen Award for Art.
Free, drop-in spotlight tours led by museum staff are offered every Wednesday and Saturday at 1 p.m.
Have you ever wondered what lies beyond the horizon? Or what the horizon looks like from an ant’s or a bird’s point of view? Participants go beyond traditional landscapes in this mixed-media workshop by looking at Aspen through new and exciting perspectives. We will create a world where big paper shapes and fabric collages come to life in a magical realm beyond where the earth meets the sky.
You won’t want to miss this art party! Young artists are invited to select a favorite exhibition from the AAM’s “collection” and create a series of new works in response. The week will culminate in a colorful group show celebrating the AAM’s past, present, and future. Artwork will be displayed as part of the twenty-four-hour celebration for everyone at the museum.
