    Movies at the Museum: Black Orpheus (1959)

    In this retelling of the classic Greek myth, Orpheus and Eurydice meet, intertwine, and face loss during Carnival week in Rio de Janeiro. Filmed with rich technicolor splendor and the constant beat of a samba and bossa nova soundtrack, this film was recognized with awards including the Palme d’Or at the 1959 Cannes Film Festival and the Best Foreign Language film at the 1960 Academy Awards.

    Active Art invites seniors to engage in the social dimensions of art. Each month, museum Educators bring free, memory-enhancing activities to the assisted living communities of Whitcomb Terrace in Aspen and Heritage Park in Carbondale.

    Drip, Splat, Repeat (Ages 9–11)

    Create beautiful pieces of abstract art in this workshop through experimentation with dripping, splattering, and scratching the surface using various types of paint. We will push the limits of our materials and redefine what a painting can look like!

    Rashid Johnson Performance: The Hikers (3:30 PM & 5:30 PM) SOLD OUT

    As part of the opening of Rashid Johnson’s exhibition, a special dance performance will be presented within the gallery space. Choreographed by Claudia Schreier, this newly commissioned work responds to Johnson’s Anxious Men series, including themes of displacement, isolation, recognition, and comfort.This event is free, but ticketed on a first come, first served basis.

    Let’s find out what dots can do in this workshop dedicated to the application of dots in all colors and sizes, from traditional polka dots to glittery splotches. Young artists will marvel as bold compositions take on lives of their own. One thing is certain—these artworks will vibrate and pop!
