      Active Art: Whitcomb Terrace

      Active Art invites seniors to engage in the social dimensions of art. Each month, museum Educators bring free, memory-enhancing activities to the assisted-living communities of Whitcomb Terrace in Aspen and Heritage Park in Carbondale, and also host art making in the museum’s Roof Deck Sculpture Garden with complimentary refreshments.

      Free, drop-in spotlight tours led by museum staff are offered every Wednesday and Saturday at 1 p.m.

    • Young artists in this workshop will create whimsical artworks all by hand. Huggable hand-sewn softies, decorative prints on wood, and colorful paper cuttings are just a few of the projects that will capture the beauty and charm of the handmade. Some artworks will be made as gifts to be given away at the end-of-week art show.

      Family Workshops

      Monthly drop-in Family Workshops at the AAM are designed to provide children and adults free opportunities to explore the galleries and create works of art on their own. Families are encouraged to communicate, reflect, and produce as artists together.

    • 3 PM Experience

      Arte en Español

      Drawing on the wealth of Spanish speakers in the Roaring Fork Valley, the museum presents an afternoon of activities for all ages, entirely in Spanish. Featuring guided tours, family art-making activities, and more, this special event is free and open to the public en Español. This special event will include a walkthrough with artist Gabriel Rico.

    • Design is all around us! From words on signs to spaces we interact with, a designer can turn an idea into a work of art. Taking inspiration from the works of Margaret Kilgallen and Oscar Tuazon, join us as we learn about making layouts, visual design, and typography in order to make our own zine!

    • Join former Ute tribal chairman Roland McCook for an evening discussing the relationship between indigenous peoples and animals of Western Colorado. The conversation will tie to the work of Gabriel Rico, whose exhibition at the AAM juxtaposes natural and imagined life.
