    Artists in the Making: Middle School

    The Aspen Art Museum offers after-school workshops for middle school students that develop skills of self-expression, teamwork, and creative art-making techniques using a variety of materials. Participants will work together over several weeks to present an exhibition of their work in the final session.

    Legacy Lectures: Stuart Mace & Toklat

    In celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the Aspen Center of Environmental Studies (ACES), this event will trace the legacy of Stuart Mace and Toklat through a conversation with artist Isa Catto and Mace’s son, Kent Mace. Stuart Mace was a botanist who came to Aspen in 1948 and created an ecological and artistic haven at Toklat, which became a foundational component of ACES.

    Free, drop-in spotlight tours led by museum staff are offered every Wednesday and Saturday at 1 p.m.

    Art Studio: K–4 Grades

    This after-school program for kids in Grades K–4 is held most Wednesdays during the school year at the AAM. Museum educators lead classes that include activities in the gallery and take-home projects.
    
    

    Classes are limited to fifteen participants. Prior registration strongly encouraged.

    Story Art: Carbondale

    Story Art is a community outreach program presented in partnership with the Carbondale Branch Library and the Glenwood Springs Branch Library. This free program for elementary and middle school students provides playful exploration of storytelling through a group reading and art-making activity inspired by AAM exhibitions.

    Crit Sessions: Max Weintraub

    Are you looking for an intimate, constructive environment to gain new perspectives on your artwork? Adopting art school’s format of group feedback, this program provides a selected group of local artists with valuable insight from a visiting expert. This session is led by the AAM’s new Senior Curator, Max Weintraub.

    Making sure art and creativity are at the heart of your child’s development, this free drop-in program for 0–5 year-olds and their caregivers explores fun ways to interact through art.

    Active Art: Redstone

    Active Art invites seniors to engage in the social dimensions of art. Each month, museum Educators bring free, memory-enhancing activities to the assisted-living communities of Whitcomb Terrace in Aspen and Heritage Park in Carbondale, the Redstone Inn in Redstone and also host art making in the museum’s Roof Deck Sculpture Garden with complimentary refreshments.
