    Agnès Varda, a leading figure of French New Wave cinema, and JR, a photographer and muralist, have two things in common: a passion for connecting with people and places. After meeting in 2015, they undertook a journey that began in nostalgia and ended in a new friendship.

    Monthly drop-in Family Workshops at the AAM are designed to provide children and adults free opportunities to explore the galleries and create works of art on their own. Families are encouraged to communicate, reflect, and produce as artists together.

    Dinosaurs, troglodytes, and the Dodo may be extinct, but they are alive and vibrant in this imaginative workshop. Looking to the work of artist Yto Barrada for inspiration, we will create a colorful series of real and imagined flora and fauna, creating our own version of prehistoric life.

    Ittetsu Nemoto, a former punk-turned-Buddhist priest in Japan, has made a career out of helping suicidal people find reasons to live. This deeply empathetic documentary traces human negotiations of the cycles of life and death.
