    • Create vibrant works of art in this mixed-media workshop inspired by the rainbow! We will explore the magic of the visible spectrum to learn how our eyes see color. Then we’ll create an array of brightly colored artworks using traditional and nontraditional materials, including construction paper, wallpaper, and candy.

    • Make handfuls of lucky charms and personal pocket-sized sculptures in this workshop inspired by the little bitty objects found in our very own pockets! Whether kept for good luck or given away, these small pieces will be magnified in a surprising way at the end-of-the-week party.

      Active Art: Heritage Park

Active Art invites seniors to engage in the social dimensions of art. Each month, museum Educators bring free, memory-enhancing activities to the assisted-living communities of Whitcomb Terrace in Aspen and Heritage Park in Carbondale, and also host art making on the museum’s Roof Deck Sculpture Garden with complimentary refreshments.

      Family Workshops

Monthly drop-in Family Workshops at the AAM are designed to provide children and adults free opportunities to explore the galleries and create works of art on their own. Families are encouraged to communicate, reflect, and produce as artists together.

All Family Workshops are free of charge and are first come, first served for families with children ages 3–10. Workshops begin in the Education Workshop, giving families choices for self-guided or Educator-led activities and art-making stations.

    • Let’s explore the play between color and sunlight! Taking inspiration from contemporary artist Larry Bell, students will create a bright array of mixed-media artworks using translucent materials such as water, vellum, and cellophane, illuminating every color of the rainbow.

    • Shape your future in this two-week pottery workshop designed for young clay artists interested in learning hand-building skills and making friendships that will last a lifetime. We’ll work individually and collaboratively to imagine and create a personal set of functional and decorative pieces. We’ll show off our wares to family and friends at a zany Mad Potters party at the end of the session.
