    Wade Guyton Peter Fischli David Weiss Artist Films

    As an introduction to the work of American artist Wade Guyton (b. 1972), and Swiss artists Peter Fischli (b. 1952) and David Weiss (1946–2012), known together as Fischli and Weiss, and the forthcoming building-wide collaboration Wade Guyton Peter Fischli David Weiss, the Aspen Art Museum and Aspen Film copresent an evening of the artists’ films.

    Movies at the Museum:
    The Kid (1921) With Special Live Performance by Marc Ribot

    In this special performance, Marc Ribot presents a live guitar score to the classic silent film, The Kid, contemporizing this classic Chaplin film to a story relevant to the economic and social conditions of today. Ribot, who Rolling Stone describes as “emotive, graceful, but with a glint of mischief in his method,” has released over twenty albums and performed with Robert Plant, Alison Krauss, Elvis Costello, and more.

    Themed drinks and trivia turn this screening of a documentary about David Lynch’s complex artistic practice into an unforgettable event. David Lynch: The Art Life looks at Lynch’s art, music, and early films, shining a light into the dark corners of his unique world and giving audiences a better understanding of the man and the artist. Doors open at 7 p.m. for signature drinks and free snacks, a trivia night at 7:15 p.m., and the film screening—once prizes for trivia winners have been distributed.

    This winter, the AAM and Aspen Film present the Movies at the Museum program “Two Places,” featuring films that provide diverse perspectives on places that are often defined by stereotypes: Los Angeles and Tel Aviv. Complementing the nuanced looks at these places by AAM exhibiting artists Zoe Crosher and Thomas Struth, the pairing of a short film and feature-length film presents refreshing alternatives to clichéd representations of two global locations.
