      Active Art at the Museum

      This free program offers senior citizens in the Roaring Fork Valley an informal drawing lesson and the opportunity to socialize over food and beverages at SO, the AAM’s Andrea and James Gordon Café.

    • As a complement to his exhibition of paintings this fall at the AAM, this season’s Movies at the Museum celebrates three feature-length films by Julian Schnabel that tell the true stories of brave, creative individuals.

    • Celebrate the closing weekend of the exhibition of Alan Shields’s Protracted Simplicity (1966–1985) with an in-gallery reading of selected poems also created by the artist. Presented in collaboration with the Aspen Poets’ Society, local poets will perform Shields’s original poetry among his paintings and sculptures.

      Free, drop-in spotlight tours led by museum staff are offered every Wednesday and Saturday at 1 p.m.

    • These community workshops provide playful art exploration for young audiences with their parents or caregivers. The Levels 0–2 and 3–5 Years are offered free of charge on a first come, first serve basis.

      Story Art is a community outreach program that provides playful exploration of storytelling for young audiences with their parents or caregivers. This free community program builds visual literacy and art appreciation in the Basalt Regional Library and Carbondale Branch Library.
