    • From July 20–24, Tibetan Buddhist monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery will construct a temporary mandala sand painting on Level 3 of the Aspen Art Museum as part of their annual visit to Aspen. Visitors are invited to watch the creation of this temporal artwork during regular museum hours.

      Free, drop-in spotlight tours led by museum staff are offered every Wednesday and Saturday at 1 p.m.

    • From July 20–24, Tibetan Buddhist monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery will construct a temporary mandala sand painting on Level 3 of the Aspen Art Museum as part of their annual visit to Aspen. Geshe Lobsang Tenzin, Founder and Spiritual Director of the Drepung Loseling Monastery and Senior Lecturer at Emory University, will present a lecture on the symbolism of the mandala and what to expect during the closing ceremony the following day.

    • Partnering with local producers in the Roaring Fork Valley, the first Trunk Show at the AAM features artist Elle Jay Jewelry at SO, the Andrea and James Gordon roof-deck café.

    • Move beyond the canvas in this tactile, experimental Workshop. Taking inspiration from Alan Shields, students will create stunning mixed media works using materials created from scratch! Exploring techniques such as making homemade paper and custom-printed designs, students will create complex two-dimensional masterpieces.

    • What would you capture in a journal about your life and your environment? Taking inspiration from Gabriel Orozco’s approach to photography, participants will use their cameras to capture what they can find in their surrounding environment. Students will create a photo journal documenting the simple yet extraordinary moments we create together.

      Active Art at the Museum

      This free program offers senior citizens in the Roaring Fork Valley an informal drawing lesson and the opportunity to socialize over food and beverages at SO, the AAM’s Andrea and James Gordon Café.

      Active Art at Whitcomb Terrace

      Active Art invites seniors to engage in the social dimensions of art. Museum educators bring free, memory-enhancing activities to the assisted-living communities of Whitcomb Terrace in Aspen and Heritage Park in Carbondale. Physically independent seniors are invited for monthly gatherings at the Aspen Art Museum, where drawing activities and free food and refreshments are offered at SO, the Andrea and James Gordon café.

    • Presented in collaboration with the Aspen Music Festival and School (AMFS), this free chamber concert series features one hour performances by the most advanced AMFS students and visiting musicians in Aspen.
