    • Naomi Beckwith is the Marilyn and Larry Fields Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (MCA). Prior to joining the MCA, Beckwith was a fellow at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia and the Associate Curator at the Studio Museum in Harlem. She holds an MA from the Courtauld Institute of Art and was a Critical Studies Fellow in the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program. Her lecture will explore the work of Mickalene Thomas.

      Free, drop-in spotlight tours led by museum staff are offered every Wednesday and Saturday at 1 p.m.

    • This after-school program for kids in grades K–4 is held weekly at the Aspen Art Museum from September through May. Taking place most Wednesdays from 2:30–4 p.m., these workshops recognize the value of exposing children to the arts at an early age and use the artist’s process as an educational tool. Museum educators and teaching artists lead classes that include activities in the gallery and take-home projects.

      Classes are limited to fifteen participants. Prior registration is strongly encouraged.

    • Sandra Jackson-Dumont is the Frederick P. and Sandra P. Rose Chairman of Education at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She is responsible for the vision and management of education and public programs, including playing a leadership role in the development of the new Met Breuer. Jackson-Dumont will reflect on her work and her time spent as 2016 AAM Educator in Residence.

    • This season, the AAM’s Movies at the Museum program presents films that complement Mickalene Thomas’s exhibition Mentors, Muses, and Celebrities. The program draws on true stories of strong female protagonists, each of whom overcomes adversity in ordinary and extraordinary ways while challenging us to imagine a better world.

    • Held once a month from 10:30–11:30 a.m., these free community workshops provide playful exploration of storytelling for young audiences with their parents or caregivers. This level of Art Studio is offered free of charge and is first come, first served.
