    Art Studio: Level 1 (Ages 2–5)

    Held once a month from 10:30–11:30 a.m., these free community workshops provide playful exploration of storytelling for young audiences with their parents or caregivers. This level of Art Studio is offered free of charge and is first come, first served.

    Story Art: Carbondale

    Story Art is a community outreach program that provides playful exploration of storytelling for young audiences with their parents or caregivers. This free community program builds visual literacy and art appreciation in the Basalt Regional Library and Carbondale Branch Library.

    Free, drop-in spotlight tours led by museum staff are offered every Wednesday and Saturday at 1 p.m.

  • 2:30 PM Make

    Art Studio: Level 2 (Grades K–4)

    This after-school program for kids in grades K–4 is held weekly at the Aspen Art Museum from September through May. Taking place most Wednesdays from 2:30–4 p.m., these workshops recognize the value of exposing children to the arts at an early age and use the artist’s process as an educational tool. Museum educators and teaching artists lead classes that include activities in the gallery and take-home projects.
    
    Classes are limited to fifteen participants. Prior registration is strongly encouraged.

    Homeschool Workshop

    The Aspen Art Museum tailors special visits and workshops for homeschool families and programs in the Roaring Fork Valley. Each workshop provides an opportunity for parents and children to learn about contemporary art while creating a work of art together as a family. Parents also learn techniques and skills for creating their own art experiences at home.

    Family Workshop

    Monthly drop-in Family Workshops at the AAM are designed to provide children and adults free opportunities to explore the galleries and create works of art on their own. Participants get to know one another better through engagement with exhibitions. Families are encouraged to communicate, reflect, and produce as artists together.

    2016 YCRF Exhibition: Generation Now

    As part of the rising “Generation Z,” the Young Curators of the Roaring Fork seek to challenge the stereotypes that portray them and capture unique voices that can be tools for social change. YCRF participants have also organized a movie night on Friday, April 15, at 6 p.m., to share short films that bring the exhibition’s themes to the screen.
    
    Generation Now runs April 10–24, 2016 in the Education Workshop of the AAM.

  • 3 PM Experience

    Young Curators of the Roaring Fork Opening

    Since 2005, the AAM’s Young Curators of the Roaring Fork (YCRF) has engaged high school students in a six-month program that builds aesthetic valuation, leadership, organizational, and critical thinking skills. After participants identify an exhibition theme, lead a call for submissions, and assemble the exhibition, an opening is held to celebrate this student-driven initiative.
