From July 11–15, Tibetan Buddhist monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery will construct a temporary mandala sand painting on Level 3 of the Aspen Art Museum as part of their annual visit to Aspen. Geshe Lobsang Tenzin, Founder and Spiritual Director of the Drepung Loseling Monastery and Senior Lecturer at Emory University, will present a lecture on the symbolism of the mandala and what to expect during the closing ceremony the following day.

Do you have what it takes to create the ideal environment for experiencing contemporary art? After studying the exhibition design of Night and Day, budding architects and designers will use the digital programs Google Sketch Up and Architectural Design Studio as well as hand-drafting and model-making skills to design a proposal for a student exhibition.
Enter the magical realms of myths and adventures found in Chris Ofili’s paintings. We’ll interpret myths and see how our perspective changes through experiencing art. Kids will bring poems to life on canvas through vivid forms of watercolor and acrylic painting, developing their very own style of expression.

Gabriel Sierra was born in San Juan Nepomuceno, Columbia, and lives and works in Bogotá. He studied industrial design at Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano in Bogotá and incorporates languages of design and architecture in his sculptures and installations. His work has been featured in exhibitions at the Centre d’Art Contemporain Brétigny, Aspen Art Museum, Kadist Art Foundation, Socrates Sculpture Park, and CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts.
