The Japanese artist Takashi Murakami combines highly refined classical Japanese painting techniques with distinctive Pop sensibilities. Known for his “Superflat” style, directly influenced by manga and anime, the artist creates works that explode with color and playfulness. For the 2015–16 ski season, in collaboration with Aspen Skiing Company, Murakami has produced four unique images, all of which embody his trademark visual aesthetic.
• Try to remember if you ever saw or felt or experienced a phantom in your early childhood (you can also think of a more recent phantom).
• Give your phantom a name, place of origin, shape, features, characteristics, habits. Is it friendly or scary? Where does the phantom live? Do you like its company at all?
• Make a portrait of your phantom (drawing, painting, video, sound, sculpture, whatever media you find most appropriate to represent it).

Teamwork is needed for this epic building workshop! Participants will learn how to construct a temporary structure to be used as a shelter and imaginative play from raw and found materials, such as cardboard and plywood. Family and friends are invited to complete the project by interacting with the space at the end of the week.
