Jacqueline Humphries was born in New Orleans, in 1960, and lives and works in New York. Her paintings draw on various traditions of abstraction from gestural and geometric, hard-edge styles. Her work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Contemporary Art Center New Orleans, the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, and Kunsthalle Wilhelmshaven, Germany.
