Marketing & Communications Manager

General Purpose Statement

The Marketing & Communications Manager is responsible for the creation and implementation of public relations and marketing strategies for all of the Aspen Art Museum’s programs and publications. This position manages all institutional social media outlets, generates press coverage, and expands AAM’s marketing plan in a creative, consistent, and collaborative manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage the development, implementation, and monitoring of the AAM’s PR & Marketing Plan, ensuring consistency across all platforms that the AAM brand and strategy is being maintained.
• Generate press coverage for AAM exhibitions and events; post events to local calendars.
• Manage the drafting and editing of institutional press releases.
• Compile and generate press kits for AAM meetings and stakeholder informational purposes.

• Manage small communications team and prioritize projects and set clear deadlines
• Manage budgets for all digital and print advertisements
• Composition, trafficking, and placement of all newspaper, magazine, radio, and television advertisements throughout the Roaring Fork Valley.
• Approve all posts for social media outlets: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. • Maintain active list of press, media, and marketing contacts.
• Coordinate or conduct photography of AAM events, plus media appearances including all standing radio and television programs.
• Promote programming, exhibitions, AAM Shop, SO Café, etc.
• Liaise with the Development team for consistent marketing related to membership
• Analyze email and website performance to make recommendations on tactics
• Manage strategies to improve effective AAM internal communication, working with all departments to maintain a consistent message for all outward facing communications.
• Increase digital engagement with the goal of growing membership revenue
• Maintain an archive of all press, marketing, and PR materials, and coordinate with curatorial department on dissemination of media coverage to stakeholders.
• Research media coverage and industry trends.

• Must be able to remain calm in stressful situations and help resolve complaints with tact and courtesy.
• Ability to work positively with colleagues, artists, the public, Board of Trustees, donors, and volunteers.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays, as needed.
• Proficiency in standard computer applications and programs, e.g., MS Word, email, MS Excel, PowerPoint, and file management.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask under pressure in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Requirements and Qualifications:


• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in marketing, communications or the arts.
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
• Rigorous attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Desire to learn museum processes and provide feedback to improve or streamline processes
• Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks; excellent time-management, problem-prevention, and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge and enthusiasm for contemporary visual art, artists, museums, and exhibitions.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented, open environment.


Hours and Work Schedule

This is an exempt salaried position requiring availability during weekdays with occasional weekend, evening, and holiday work. The Communications Manager position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and will not receive overtime pay for all hours worked in excess of forty in a seven-day workweek.
